City to host Legends Premier League T10 Cricket Tourney from May 20

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore in association with Navodaya Cricket Club and Jai Hind Cricket Club is organising a first-of-its- kind “Legends Premier League – T10 Cricket Tournament” on May 20 and 21 at Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar (SDNR Wadiyar) Cricket Stadium, Manasagangothri and JSS-Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) cricket grounds in the city.

Dr. P. Krishnaiah, Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore, who is also the Chairman of  Legends Premier League, said at a press meet that “Around 100 senior cricketers who have represented Ranji Trophy, Karnataka State, Mysuru Division and University Cricket teams will be playing in this meet. Cricket teams from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Shivamogga and Tumakuru, a combined team from rest of Karnataka will take part. It is intended at ensuring the fitness of fellow cricketers and contribute to the growth of cricket thereby inspiring youngsters all over.”

Sapient Education Trust, IFIMED Pharmaceuticals and Idea Infinity are supporting the tournament, said Krishnaiah.

Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore Prof. N. K. Loknath will inaugurate the tournament tomorrow at 8 am, in the presence of R.K. Harikrishna Kumar, Convener of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Mysore Zone and Daljeet Ram, Chairman of Sapient Education Trust, Mysuru.

Prizes will be distributed on May 21 at 4 pm.  The tourney will be 10-overs-a-side match with a power play for three overs. The ‘Impact Player’ rule of IPL will be adopted.

The total six teams, split into two groups of three teams each, will play a total of 11 matches with semi-finals and final. Each team will get a minimum of three matches to play.

The umpires, scorers and KSCA rules will govern the tournament. On first day, the match will start at 8.30 am and on the second day at 9.30 am.

Members of Organising Committee, Legends Premier League Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, M.R. Ananda, A. Sudhindra, Dr. Krshna Kumar, Yogesh and Srinivas Prasad were present at the press meet.
