The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is gearing up to chase the ‘Cleanest City’ Award a third time. Here are a few suggestions:
- Impose hefty fine or jail for a few days for those who dump garbage on the vacant sites and at street corners. Educate public to get rid of the age-old habit.
- Introduce a prize for the ‘Cleanest Ward’ in the city. Let the 65 Wards compete with one another to win this prize.
- Out of 65 Wards, some Wards are spic and span, but some are not up to the mark. To bring not-so-clean Wards on par with the others, civic workers of say around 6-10 Wards should descend on the ‘problematic’ Ward once a month and carry out ‘mass cleaning.’ Face-lift of areas where poor, illiterate, ignorant or indifferent reside is important.
- Parks are not maintained in several places.
- Street-lights are unkempt and it is dark in several places. Accidents have occurred because of the negligence of the MCC and MUDA. The City Corporation should replace the bulbs and keep the units clean.
- Some of the pictures sent on WhatsApp and published in SOM are so dreadful that one gets apprehensive about winning the ‘Cleanest City’ Award a third time.
- National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) should look after the Ring Road with regard to garbage and debris.
- Local businesses should support the Swachh Bharat campaign, if they can.
- Besides winning the prize, we must strive continuously to achieve international standards and benchmarks in cleanliness.

Little more addition to this:
Restaurants should have their own segregated dust bins for food waste and dry waste which should have match to their capacity
Street food vendors should have their own dust bins, minimum 2 in each corners for each cart
Butchers should have their own waste collection and it should be directly collected by MCC waste collection vehicle designated for animal remains and biological waste
If considered this 3 points with above points implementation by MCC, we will achieve more cleanliness in our heritage city.
