CME on Patient Safety held

Mysuru: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme of Patient Safety, organised by JSS Hospital was held at its premises with the theme ‘To improve patient safety and reduce health care associated risks’ recently.

Dr. Veeresh Kumar, Medical Superintendent of ESIC Hospital, Mysuru, was the chief guest. Dr. N. Satish Raju, Senior Resident, Department of Hospital Administration at JSS Medical College and Hospital, who is also the Organising Secretary of the CME, introduced the programme to the participants. Dr. (Col). M. Dayananda, Director of JSS Hospital and Organising Chairman, spoke about the importance of patient safety on all aspects of healthcare with special focus on World Health Organisation (WHO) International Patient Safety goals.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. Guruswamy, JSS Hospital Medical Superintendent, who  is also the Organising Co-Chairman, said that the aim of the CME was to make aware among the participants about various patient safety practices and to reduce health-care associated risks.  

Resource persons delivered lectures on the following subjects: Patient Safety – An Overview: Dr. Prathiba Pereira; Reducing Medication errors and improving patient safety: Dr. Harsha and Dr. Rahul Krishna; Ethical issues of cardiopulmonary resuscitation: Dr. M.R. Anil Kumar; Patient safety in Anaesthesia Practice: Dr. S. Hemalatha; Patient safety in surgery, Surgical errors detection and prevention: Dr. Shyam Prasad Shetty; Preventive measures for patient identification errors in radiology: Dr. Vikram Patil; Safe blood transfusion practices: Dr. P. Pallavi; Standard precautions as patient safety measures: Dr. R. Deepashree; Rationale use of antibiotics and patient safety: Dr. M.N. Sumana; Patient safety in paediatric practice: Dr. Deepthi Thandaveshwara; Risk mitigation in hospitals: Dr. G.B. Kuldeep; Impact of clinical audits in improving patient safety: Dr. Sreenivasa Murthy; Patient safety in emergency medicine: Dr. Nisarg Karanth; Patient safety in Radio-Diagnosis and Imaging: Dr. Nagaraja Murthy and Chronic post-surgical pain – A critical patient safety issue: Dr. Tushar Munnoli.

Doctors, nurses, administrators, paramedical staff and students of various hospitals and institutions attended the CME.
