Codava National Council to hold Satyagraha from April 1

March 29, 2018

Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) will hold overnight Satyagraha from April 1 pressing for various demands including the political goal attaining for the Autonomous Codava Land (Autonomy) and the inclusion of Kodavas as tribals in the Constitution.

In a press release, CNC President N.U. Nachappa said that CNC does not claim or advocate the tag of religious minorities for Kodava tribe. “Some media persons, who have vested interests, are trying to weaken the legitimate political goal of CNC and have misled national level English news channels by falsely claiming that CNC was demanding a religious minority tag for Kodavas.”

“Our aim is to achieve Autonomy for Codava land and inclusion of tribal list in the Constitution. Certain people who are against Kodava community are spreading rumours,” he said and added that the Satyagraha was aimed at protesting false propaganda by a  section of media.
