Mysuru: To create an awareness among public on the importance of conserving lakes and environmental protection, a coffee table book Namma Kukkarahalli Kere published by Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) in association with Wild Mysuru was released by students of Environmental School Warden Project of Kautilya Vidyalaya at a programme held on Tuesday at Kukkarahalli Lake premises here.

Speaking as the chief guest,  Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar contended that environment should be protected through self-motivation. He pointed out that the location of Kukkarahalli Lake in the middle of the city as a lung space is rare and unique. He said that the Lake is not just any water body but an excellent zone of bio-diversity and added that the book pictorially depicts the presence and importance of rare birds.

The book was released by students Chidathma, Debanshi Chakraborthy, Anurodh Krishna, Amogh Bharadwaj and Moulvika.

Debanshi Chakraborthy opined that environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility which pays back richly and added that survival of life is mainly based on clean environment. However he regretted that highly qualified people fail to understand the importance of protecting the environment. 

MGP Member Bhamy V. Shenoy said that 98% of the book is occupied by photographs contributed by lensmen Chandru and Shylajesh which throw light on the rich bio-diversity of the lake. He added that the book also highlights the importance of protecting Poornaiah Canal, the lifeline of the lake.

MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, University of Mysore VC  Prof.G. Hemantha Kumar, Kautilya Vidyalaya Teacher C.R. Roopa and others were present.
