Colourful procession marks Devara Dasimayya Jayanti

Mysuru: Marking Devara Dasimayya Jayanti, organised jointly by District Administration, Department of Kannada & Culture and Sri Devara Dasimayya Jayanthotsava Samithi, a colourful procession was taken out in city yesterday morning.

The procession was flagged off by Mayor M.J. Ravikumar at J.K. Grounds here.

About 200 people took part in the procession which passed through Irwin Road and Nehru Circle and reached Town Hall where a stage prog. was held.

Leading the procession was a well-decorated sarot carrying a huge portrait of Sri Devara Dasimayya for which floral tributes were paid by the Mayor.

Also in tow were an array of folk troupes performing rhythmic dances to the beats of drums.

City Congress President R. Murthy, who also heads the State Weavers Federation, General Secretary Narasimha Murthy and others were present.

The stage programme at Town Hall was inaugurated by MLA Vasu. MLC K.C. Kondaiah and others were present. Writer Jayappa Honnali delivered a special lecture.
