December 28, 2023

850 Pourakarmikas on permanent roll and direct pay system to reap the benefit in first phase.

Mysore/Mysuru: If all goes according to plan, women Pourakarmikas can reach their work place with ease, with Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) planning to provide ‘Pink Electric Scooters (e-Scooters)’ to them.

In the first phase, 850 women Pourakarmikas on permanent roll and direct pay system, will be allotted the scooters with the action plan getting approval. The tender process has also begun and the successful bidders will be supplying the vehicles, along with providing training on riding and getting Driving Licence (DL) for them and impart skill based training for free to the beneficiaries.

The exclusive funds allocated for Pourakarmikas will be utilised for procuring scooters, that is aimed at instilling fresh energy among women Pourakarmikas, who otherwise reach their work places by foot or by buses.

With the State Government already supplying free 200 units of power under Gruha Jyothi scheme,  there won’t be any hurdle in charging the battery of these vehicles at home.

If implemented, the scooters will be an addition to a series of programmes launched for the benefit of women in the recent months. Shakti scheme under which women are allowed to travel for free anywhere in the State has turned out to be a big hit with over 120 crore women travellers availing of the benefit till date, followed by Gruha Lakshmi scheme, under which eligible women are entitled for a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 2,000.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is also building separate Pink Toilets for women, while the Pink Polling Booths to facilitate women voters during elections, on the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI) is already in use during every elections.
