Compensation for Temple tragedy victims MP distributes Centre’s order copy

Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayan, along with Hanur MLA R. Narendra (extreme right), symbolically distributing the order copy of Centre’s compensation to the families of victims of Kichuguth Sulwadi Maramma Temple prasadam poisoning incident.

17 persons have died and over a 100 fell ill when poison-laced prasadam was distributed to devotees at the Temple in December last year. Following the tragedy and after the issue was raised in the Parliament by Dhruvanarayan, the Centre had announced that Rs. 2 lakh will be paid to the families of the dead while Rs. 50,000 will be paid for the people who fell ill.

The MP distributed the order copy to the victims’ families while the compensation amount will be directly credited to their bank accounts. In all, Rs. 75 lakh has been released by the Centre to the victims.
