Conduct safety audit of Parks to make it child-friendly

May 18, 2019

Sir,

With reference to the Weekend Star Supplement dated Apr.27 “FITNESS FOR FREE”, the efforts of the Mysuru City Corporation in introducing outdoor gym is praiseworthy. However, maintenance issues are not taken care of. It is true even with the play equipment of children play area in some of the parks. These pose great risk for the safety of kids. For instance, the metal slides of Brindavan Extension Park have huge defects (see pic.) and is in a rusty condition, which can cause serious injury to the children.

Despite providing wonderful opportunities for fun, exercise and recreation, parks can be a hazardous place when safety is ignored. Hope the authorities concerned will conduct a safety audit of all the public parks and take necessary action so that our parks are safer for the little ones.
