Congress felicitates freedom fighters

Mysore/Mysuru: On the eve of 75th year of Independence, the City and District Unit of Congress Party on Saturday felicitated 10 freedom fighters at a programme organised at Freedom Fighters Park in Subbarayanakere here on Saturday.

Speaking after being felicitated, freedom fighter Ashwathnarayan said that it is important for everyone to know how our country got freedom. Maintaining that freedom was achieved with the sacrifice of lakhs of people, he noted that everyone should come forward for maintaining our hard earned freedom. 

Contending that every citizen should get all kinds of freedom apart from political freedom, he called upon the people to come forward for saving our freedom. 

KPCC Working President R. Dhruvanarayan, in his address, credited the freedom fighters for ensuring that our countrymen live a free life. Contending that we should not forget the sacrifices made by freedom fighters, he maintained that it was Jawaharlal Nehru who laid a strong foundation for the                                                           country’s development in post-independence, by implementing Five Year Plans.

He further said that Nehru should be credited for making a significant achievement in promoting literacy among the country’s population. 

Freedom fighters Ravi, Vedamba, Premavathi, Srikantaiah, Ningaiah, Revanna, Rangashetty, Somashekar, Lakshmi Rachappa and Ashwathnarayan were felicitated on the occasion.

MLC R. Dharmasena, District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, City President R. Murthy, former MLAs Vasu and M.K. Somashekar and other Congress leaders were present.
