Congress protests against SC judgement on reservation

February 15, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of a State-wide stir, over 200 Congress workers, led by former Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, staged a demonstration urging the Centre to file a review petition against the recent Supreme Court verdict which said that ‘reservation in job promotion is not a fundamental right,’ at Gandhi Square here this morning.

Addressing the Congress workers, Dr. Mahadevappa maintained that the SC verdict on reservation in promotions has shocked the SC/ST communities. Asking the Centre to immediately file a petition seeking a review of its (SC) verdict, he blamed the BJP-led Government at the Centre for depriving Dalit and other oppressed communities of their rights. Accusing the BJP of acting against the interests of SC/STs, the former Minister warned that the Congress would intensify its protest if the Centre does not take measures for introducing a Bill that safeguards the rights of SC/ST communities that is guaranteed by the Constitution. He also urged the Centre to ensure that there is no change in job promotion reservation and that Government employees from SC/ST communities                                      get justice.

MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah, former MLAs  M.K. Somashekar and Kalale Keshavamurthy, former Mayors Modamani, T.B. Chikkanna, Pushpalatha Chikkanna and Ayub Khan, City Congress President R. Murthy, District President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, leaders H. A. Venkatesh, Manjula Manasa, Bhaskar L. Gowda,  Shantakumari, Arif Hussain, M. Shivanna and other Congress leaders were present.
