Mysuru: A KSRTC bus driver, who was entrusted the responsibility of handing over the consignment of two boxes containing cell phones, has been reportedly duped by a youth who claimed to be the real consignee.

On Wednesday, one Deepesh Kumar, a mobile phone dealer, who owns a mobile phone shop in front of the Bus Stand at  Pandavapura, had given two boxes containing 33 brand new Oppo cell phones worth about Rs. 4.39 lakh to Kumar, a KSRTC bus driver, to be delivered to one Shravan at Mysuru.

Kumar, who left Pandavapura Bus Stand along with the consignment at about 2.30 pm, arrived at Mysuru and stopped the bus at Fountain Circle for passengers to alight at about 3.15 pm.

When the passengers were alighting from the bus, a youth identifying himself as Shravan gave correct details of Pandavapura’s Deepesh Kumar and asked Kumar to handover the consignment. Satisfied with the youth’s description of Deepesh, driver Kumar handed over the boxes to the youth.

Later, when the bus reached Sub-Urban Bus Stand, the real Shravan asked driver Kumar for the consignment, when Kumar told him that a youth who had claimed himself to be Shravan had taken the two boxes from him at Fountain Circle itself.

A shocked Shravan told Kumar that he was waiting in the Sub-Urban Bus Stand itself and informed the matter to Deepesh at Pandavapura, following which Deepesh rushed to Mysuru and lodged a complaint with the jurisdictional N.R. Police.

N.R. Inspector Ashok Kumar, who registered a case, questioned driver Kumar, who told the Police that he handed over the consignment only after the youth introduced himself as Sharavan and told Deepesh’s name.

The Police have suspected that the youth may heard the conversation between Deepesh and driver Kumar when Deepesh was giving the consignment in Pandavapura to be taken to Mysuru and cheated Deepesh and Kumar.

N.R. Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
