Contaminated water: Over 15 fall ill in Chamarajanagar village

May 27, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: More than 15 villagers in Maduvanahalli, Kollegal taluk, fell ill after consuming contaminated water and are currently receiving treatment at Kollegal Government Hospital. The affected individuals reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea, indicating a potential contamination of the drinking water supply.

Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag visited the affected village to assess the situation and confirmed that many of the afflicted individuals have already shown signs of recovery. Among them, two individuals still receive treatment at the Taluk Hospital and the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The Chamarajanagar district administration is taking proactive measures to ensure availability of clean drinking water,” stated DC Shilpa Nag. “In the light of disruptions in the regular Cauvery water supply due to ongoing road development, we will be distributing water via tankers for the upcoming week, and this water must be utilised for drinking purposes,” she said.

Dr. Arun Rate, Medical Officer at the Primary Health Centre, said that a door-to-door awareness programme was conducted. Medical staff have collected samples of borewell water and sent them to lab for testing.

As a precautionary measure, supply of borewell drinking water has been temporarily disconnected and tanker water is being provided to the village, he said.
