Continuing Dental Education on Lasers in Paediatric Dentistry

Mysuru: The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, JSS Dental College and Hospital, had organised a Continuing Dental Education and hands-on Programme on “Lasers in Paediatric Dentistry” in collaboration with the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry recently.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University in the presence of Dr. Anil Kumar Gujjari, Principal, Dr. M.R. Dakshayani, Vice-Principal, Organising Chairpersons Dr. K.T. Srilatha, Professor and Head, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Dr. B. Nandlal, Professor and Organising Committee comprising Dr. Brinda Godhi, Dr. Raghavendra Shanbhog and team.

Guest speaker, Dr. Chandrashekhar Yavagal, Professor, MMNGH Institute of Dental Sciences, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Belagavi, lectured about the applications of lasers in dentistry and discussed various clinical cases through an extensive interactive session with the delegates.

Dr. H.P. Jaishankar, Reader, JSS Dental College and Hospital, spoke about the use of lasers to treat the various oral mucosal lesions in paediatric patients and highlighted the importance of using newer advances like lasers to treat oral conditions. The highlight of the programme was the live demo on laser tooth whitening using 14% hydrogen peroxide and 980nm diode laser.

The programme was followed by the Hands-on Workshop wherein all the delegates got a demonstration and experience of use of the dental diode laser of 660nm for PDT and 980nm for surgical procedures.

A total of 110 delegates comprising various dental specialities from in and around Mysuru were benefited from the programme.
