Photography expo, wrestling to mark Devaraj Urs’ birth anniversary

Mysuru: The District Administration has decided to celebrate former Chief Minister late D. Devaraj Urs’ 102nd birth anniversary on Aug.20 in a meaningful manner.

Chairing a meeting in this regard at his office here recently, DC D. Randeep said that the stage programme will take place at Kalamandira on the morning of Aug.20, during which dignitaries will be felicitated, meritorious students will be presented Pratibha Puraskar and winners of various contests held to mark the occasion will be distributed prizes.

Photography expo: The DC directed the officials to hold a photography exhibition on the life and times of the late CM at Suchitra Art Gallery in Kalamandira as it will send a good message to the youth community and inspire them.

District Backward Classes Welfare Officer G.S. Somashekar Jigani said the Government has sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for the celebrations at District-level and Rs. 20,000 for taluk-level.

Continuing, Jigani said many contests will be organised to mark the occasion. Also, the best hostel wardens will be felicitated.

Illuminate DD Urs Road: Ursu Mandali President Lingaraje Urs appealed the DC to illuminate D.D. Urs Road in the heart of the city on Aug. 20 to which the Deputy Commissioner said he would direct the CESC officials to consider the suggestion.

Wrestling contest:Cauvery Neeravari Nigam PRO D. Ravikumar said, like last year it has been proposed to organise a wrestling competition this year too at a cost of Rs. 7 lakh. The competition will be inaugurated  at D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium in Dasara Exhibition Grounds at 3.30pm on Aug.20, he said and added that there will be a total of 30 wrestling bouts, including 2 contests for women wrestlers along with marpeet.

Information Department Assistant Director Raju, Ursu Mandali member Veeraraj Urs and others attended the meeting.
