Cook dies after drinking ‘holy water’ sent through parcel: Wife, paramour arrested for sending cyanide-laced ‘holy water’

Madikeri: Somwarpet Police have arrested a woman and her paramour for sending cyanide-laced ‘holy water’ (Theertha) through parcel to the her husband T.J. Suresh in the name of a temple in Kerala resulting in the death of Suresh.

The arrested are 32-year-old Radha, wife of the deceased and a resident of Thanniruhalla and her paramour B.D. Murali, a resident of Basaweshwara Nagar in Somwarpet. They have been remanded to judicial custody. During interrogation, the accused are said to have revealed about their affair and about spiking ‘theertha’ with cyanide to kill Suresh.

Details: Suresh, a resident of Thanniruhalla, was a devotee of his family God of a Temple at Uppala in Kerala, which used to send him prasadam through post.

When the prasadam sent by Murali reached the hands of Suresh through parcel, Radha made Suresh drink it resulting in his death. Meanwhile, Radha, in a bid to destroy the evidence, put the theertha bottle and the parcel package to fire. Somwarpet Police, who took the case seriously, began their investigation and summoned Radha and Murali to Police Station and interrogated them during which the duo are said to have confessed of the crime. A case has been registered under IPC Section 302 of Column (B) and 201 read with 34. Somwarpet Dy.SP Muralidhar, Circle Inspector Kumar Aradhya, SI Shivashankar and staff Shivakumar, Naveen Kumar, Jagadish, Praveen, Keshava, Ramesh, Kanthi, Dhanalakshmi, Saju, Joseph, Prakash, Sampath Rai, Kumar, Ganesh and CDR wing’s Rajesh and Girish, took part in the nabbing operation.
