Cool drinks Centre in K.R. Hospital’s stone building premises: Officials in a spot

December 30, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru:  Even as Nursing Hostel inmates are concerned over the establishment of a cool drinks centre (Sri Sai Fresh Juice Point) opposite the K.R. Hospital’s stone building block facing Dhanvantri Road, the officials seem to be in a spot if one goes by their conflicting statements over the row.

While objecting to the setting up of the shop, the Nursing students recall the scary incident that took place three years ago, when a stranger, who succeeded in entering the hostel, caused  some anxious moments for them, through his shameful acts.

While the Juice Point owner claims that the shop has been established with all permissions in place, some officials say that the shop has not been sanctioned by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), while some others say that the nod of the Mysore Medical College And Research Institute’s (MMC&RI) Governing Council was mandatory.

Meanwhile, Juice Point owner M.N. Suryanarayana, a hotelier of Shivarampet, said that he has obtained the necessity permission of the Hospital and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for running the shop in the Hospital premises.

Pointing out that the MCC has fixed a rent of Rs. 4,000 per month for the shop, he said that the shop was opened three months ago. However, it was closed down recently due to his ill-health and lack of workers, he said and added that the shop has all the required official documents.

K.R. Hospital Medical Superintendent Nanjundaswamy said that the shop approval is pending at the DC’s office.

Asserting that the shop has been constructed  in a hurry even before sanction of the permission, he said that students themselves in the past had sought the establishment of a cool drinks centre.

MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. Dinesh said that though permission was granted to the Juice Centre, it had not yet got approval of the MMC&RI’s Governing Council.

Stating that only the building has come up and the Juice Point is yet to go functional, Dr. Dinesh said that the Juice Centre was allowed to set shop as many students had sought one in the vicinity of the Hospital.
