Mysuru: The Courtroom was abuzz with intrigue and anticipation last evening as one of the most gripping cases in recent memory reached its conclusion.
As the Judge pronounced the verdict, the Courtroom was packed with senior advocates, junior lawyers, law students and media representatives, all keenly observing the proceedings with some diligently taking notes as the Judge delivered the verdict.
By afternoon, discussions about the verdict had spilt over into the Court canteen, where senior and junior lawyers, along with students, debated the nuances of the judgement with palpable enthusiasm.
Second such case in Karnataka
It was widely acknowledged that such a case had never been seen before in Mysuru District Court. Nationally, it was only the fourth of its kind — and notably, just the second case in Karnataka.
The first in Karnataka involved a doctor from Tumakuru, who had been accused of dowry harassment and murdering his wife. The then-COD (now CID) Police arrested him and filed a chargesheet.
However, when the Bengaluru City Police apprehended the notorious Dandupalya gang, it emerged that they had committed the murder.
Despite this, the COD stood by its chargesheet, insisting the doctor was guilty. In the end, the doctor was exonerated and released, while the Dandupalya gang members were convicted and sentenced to death.
