Cut-off power restored at Taluk Office

August 31, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Electricity, which was cut off in the Taluk Office at Mini Vidhana Soudha here on Friday, reportedly due to non-payment of pending power bills, was restored this morning, much to the relief of people, who visit this much sought-after public office for their work.

Following non-payment of pending power bills to the tune of about Rs. 3 lakh, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) had disconnected power supply to the Taluk Office on Friday evening.

However, the effect of power cut-off was not witnessed on Saturday and Sunday, both being public holidays.

But as the power cut-off continued on Monday, people from across the city and taluk, who had come in large numbers after a two-day holiday break, were in for a shock as their work could not be done by the office staff for want of power.

The problem was all the more compounded as the computer systems failed to take off for want of power supplies and back up power, with most of the application screening and verification processes and other transactions done online.

But CESC officials, reportedly under directions from their Higher authorities, restored the power connection this morning, which brought relief both to the public and the staff alike.

The Taluk Office’s Executive Shirastedar Mohammad Shariff told Star of Mysore that the office had pending power bills to the tune of Rs. 3 lakh for the past six months.

Explaining the piling up of dues, he said that the office used to get power bills ranging from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 every month.

Pointing out that the Mysuru Taluk Office received a Government grant of only Rs. 50,000 every three months under power bills head, he said that this insufficient grant had resulted in the piling up of dues.

However, the matter has been brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Bagadi Gautham, Mohammad Shariff said and hoped that the power bill payment problem may end soon with the District Administration’s intervention.
