Mysore/Mysuru: A 52-year-old woman, who had invested Rs. 21.50 lakh after believing an advertisement on Facebook has lost the money. The victim has been identified as Malathi (name changed), a resident of Gangothri Layout in city.
On Mar. 13, when Malathi was going through her social media pages, she noticed an online investment advertisement and got her name registered.
Later, she received a call from one Raghunandan Rao, who informed her about Social Venture Capitalist Company and told her to transfer Rs. 17,144 to an UPI ID. After Malathi transferred the money, Raghunandan sent a website link and made her to open a trading account.
Malathi then received a call from one Ashwin Kumar, who identified himself as the Advisor of the company and told her to invest money in gold, silver, various currencies and crude oil in international market.
Ashwin then got Malathi to transfer a total of Rs. 21.50 lakh which she did between Mar. 20 and Apr. 15. When Ashwin told her to pay 15 percent tax to withdraw the profit, Malathi realised that she had been cheated and lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.
