Mysore/Mysuru: More than 300 cycling enthusiasts, including school children and elders, took part in the Cycle Jatha organised by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) as part of the ongoing ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in Mysuru this morning.
The Jatha was flagged-off by MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) Assistant Director Bhaskar Naik in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at Mysore Palace North Gate. The cyclists, gathered with cycling gears, gathered in front of temple as early as 6 am.
The 14-km Cycle Jatha passed through K.R. Circle, D. Devaraja Urs Road, JLB Road, City Railway Station, Irwin Road, Sir M. Visvesvaraya Circle, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle, Nelson Mandela Road, LIC Circle, JSS Medical College, Dandi Maramma Circle and returned through LIC Circle, Nelson Mandela Road, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, K.R. Circle, Silver Jubilee Clock Tower and culminated at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple.
Earlier, flagging-off the Jatha, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said, “MCC had been working round-the-clock to ensure the city was kept clean with an aim to win back past glory of city being declared as the ‘Cleanest City.’

“Several programmes have been organised by the MCC for which public co-operation is needed. Last year, because of active public participation, the Mysuru city emerged as the third cleanest in the 3-10 population category. We can achieve the same fete on public extending their co-operation. In this regard, people need to ensure that waste is not dumped on road and solid waste and wet waste are segregated at homes,” he added.

DYES Assistant Director Bhaskar Naik administered the cleanliness oath for participants.
MCC had also provided 120 Trin Trin bicycles for the participants. MCC Officers, Environment Engineers, Paurakarmikas and other were present.
