Dalit Mahasabha wants withdrawal of PDOs from poll duties

April 6, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: The Dalit Mahasabha has opposed deputation of Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) to Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) for carrying out poll duties.

In a memorandum submitted to the State Election Commissioner through the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here, the Dalit Mahasabha said that PDOs of taluks affected by severe drought too have been deputed for LS poll duties. Pointing out that several taluks are facing severe drinking water shortage and other civic problems due to drought, the Mahasabha said that such deputation has also badly affected MGNREGA works, e-Swathu issuance, door-to-door survey for schemes, ‘Koosina Mane’ Housing Scheme etc.

As such, the authorities should withdraw deputation/ deployment  of PDOs for poll duties, in the better interests of the people who are suffering from severe drought and scorching heat, the memorandum said.
