Dasara Games CM Cup 2018 to begin from tomorrow

The traditional Dasara Games, conducted since nearly four-decades from the Taluk level, District level, Divisional level and State level has been changed from this year and the Games have been renamed as the Dasara Games CM Cup 2018.

The Games will be conducted in a revised format, jointly by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Govt. of Karnataka, Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA) and District Administration at Chamundi Vihar Stadium Sports Complex and various other venues in city from Oct.10 to 16.

Events will be conducted in 24 disciplines with 23 games — Archery, Athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, fencing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, tennis, netball, swimming, table tennis, Taekwondo, volleyball, weight lifting, wrestling and wushu — to be held in Mysuru and one game (Shooting) in Bengaluru (SAI Centre, Bengaluru).

Top eight teams in each disciplines selected by the State Associations will take part in the Team events and top eight ranked players, according to the ranking nominated by the Association, will be taking part in the individual games. The Government has enhanced the prize money substantially, compared to the previous years both in the team as well as the individual events. The certificates issued from this year has been valid which was not the case in the previous years.

Inauguration

The Dasara Games CM Cup 2018 will be inaugurated by International athlete M.R. Poovamma tomorrow (Oct.10) at 4 pm. The Sports Torch, which will be lit atop Chamundi Hill in the morning, will be carried in a relay by sports persons through the main thoroughfares of the city and brought to Chamundi Vihar Stadium for the inauguration. This was announced at a press conference at Chamundi Vihar Stadium last evening.
