DAV Public School: Bringing Classroom to Homes

August 26, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: With uncertainty over reopening of schools and colleges, various educational institutions are resorting to online classes. One such effort to keep students motivated and academically updated is made by DAV Public School.

The school management is leaving no stone unturned in making the teaching-learning process simple, interesting and enjoyable and in tune with the regular school schedule.

These online lessons are recorded by the teachers and uploaded in the Google drive. The link is then sent to the respective students. This method is used keeping in mind the technical challenges faced by the students with respect to timings, availability of internet, mobiles and laptops. This flexibility of time allows the students to go through the lessons at their convenience.

Along with videos, the teachers post assignments, worksheets, and notes through WhatsApp.  The students can contact the teachers and have their doubts cleared. This ensures that two-way communication is maintained. Students receive individual attention by teachers.

Further, the lessons are revised once again through weekly interactive Zoom classes between the teachers and the students. Teachers are using innovative audio-visual aids to make the sessions more effective.  After every topic, an online test is conducted where the question paper is released at a definite time after setting the duration.  These tests are held under the supervision of the teachers through Zoom app.

All the students log in at the given time simultaneously to write the test. This gives the students the feeling of being in school. The performance and learning ability of the students is easily tracked.  Data of every student is individually stored and digitally trackable.

In addition to academics, the management is providing overall personality development and artistic skills of the students through various co-curricular activities.

There are online Yoga classes, physical education exercises, arts and craft classes so that the students do not miss out on anything. Also, events such as online International Yoga Day and World Environment Day were celebrated. The students are participating actively in these events with full enthusiasm.

“From the students’ point of view, these video classes have been started so that the students are not burdened academically.  We hope with this user-friendly approach, the students and parents make the most of this opportunity. With the support of our School Chairman N. Sachidananda Murthy, Secretary R. Anand and CEO Jayashree S. Murthy, we are able to reach the children even in this pandemic situation,” said Principal K.R. Shobha.
