CNC to stage dharna in front of DC office tomorrow

Madikeri:  The Codava National Council (CNC) will stage a Satyagraha on June 22 in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Madikeri demanding the re-commencement of ethnographic  survey of Kodava tribe for its inclusion in the Schedule List of Constitution under Articles 340 and 342.

In a press release, CNC President N.U. Nachappa has stated that the Centre had asked Karnataka to conduct an ethnographic survey of Kodavas and accordingly, the Social Welfare Ministry had entrusted the job to Tribal Research Institute, Mysuru and released Rs. 11 lakh  for the same.

Though the survey by a group of research scholars from the University of Mysore began systematically from Nov. 16, 2016 to December 2016, it was stopped midway by some vested interests who did not want the survey to be conducted, Nachappa added.
