Denial of loan on technical ground: Farmer attempts suicide by consuming poison in Bank

November 22, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Depressed over Bank officials denying loan citing technical reason, a sugarcane grower attempted suicide by consuming poison in the Bank. The incident took place at Antharasanthe hobli in H.D. Kote taluk on Monday and the farmer, who attempted suicide, is 70-year-old Ningegowda, a resident of Hosaholalu village in Antharasanthe hobli.

Ningegowda, under the leadership of State Sugarcane Growers Association State President Kurubur Shanthakumar, had applied for a loan of Rs. 2 lakh at Karnataka Gramin Bank at Antharasanthe hobli about two months ago.

From then on, Ningegowda kept on going to the Bank to know the status of his loan application and finally yesterday, he met the Bank officials and urged them to sanction the loan.

But the Bank officials, citing that he (Ningegowda) had poor Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited (CIBIL) score, told him that he cannot be given the loan.

Depressed over this, Ningegowda attempted suicide by consuming poison in the bank. He fell sick and began to vomit. Soon, the Bank officials, called Ningegowda’s son Mahadevu and informed him. With the help of the public, Ningegowda was rushed to H.D. Kote Taluk Hospital and admitted.

Following advice from the doctors, Ningegowda was shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru and he is undergoing treatment in an ICU, Mahadevu told SOM.
