An incident of a District Armed Reserve (DAR) Head Constable, who was on duty at IGP (Southern Range) Quarters, committing suicide by hanging self to a tree in the premises of the IGP Quarters, has been reported in city yesterday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Sheshappa (51), a native of Bachanahalli village in Malavalli taluk and staying in the Police Quarters in Jyothinagar here. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
It is reported that Sheshappa, was deputed for security at the DG Suites (Guest House) located inside the premises of IGP Quarters since a week.
On Wednesday night, Sheshappa, had reported to duty at 10 pm. The next day (Thursday) at about 9 am, when Sheshappa’s wife Bhanumathi calls him, he tells her that he would not be coming home for breakfast and that he had his breakfast in the IGP quarters premises. At about 1.30 pm, he called his wife over the phone, enquired about their children and asked her if she had her lunch.
At about 2 pm, another personnel reported to duty and had relieved Sheshappa. But Sheshappa, instead of going home is said to have told the personnel that he would stay for another half-an-hour and take rest in the garden.
At about 2.30 pm, carpenters who were working in the premises noticed Sheshappa hanging from a mango tree and informed the Police authorities.
IGP (Southern Range) Vipul Kumar, SP Ravi D. Channannavar, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, DCPs N. Rudramuni and Dr. H.T. Shekar rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.
The body was shifted to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to his relatives. According to Police, Sheshappa, who was in depression, had attempted suicide on two earlier occasions.
Speaking to media, Vipul Kumar, expressed his grief and said that the actual reason for Sheshappa’s death was not known. Nazarbad Police have registered a case.
