Devanur Lake bund becomes a place to segregate waste

July 15, 2018

Mysuru:  Some contractors, who are entrusted with collection and segregating waste collected from households, are using the Devanur Lake bund to dump the collected waste for segregation, which has irked the residents of the surrounding areas.

After door-to-door collection of household waste, the entire waste is brought and dumped on the lake bund for segregating them into dry and wet waste, but while taking them back to garbage plants some wastes are left behind which emanates  foul smell.

On Tuesday, after the wastes were dumped on the lake bund, it was segregated and later while taking them back in garbage vehicles, representatives of Devanur Kere Ulisi Vedike Azar Mohammed and Zahir questioned contractor Mahadevaiah that though there were garbage carrying vehicles on the spot, why only half of the waste was being transported and not full. They advised the Contractor not to leave behind waste after being segregated as they would emanate foul smell which is destroying the environment in the surroundings and informed the matter to the MCC Health Officer.

Meanwhile, MCC Health Officer Dr. Nagaraj, speaking to SOM, said that he had no information that waste was being segregated on Devanur Lake bund and added that he would collect information from the concerned Health Inspector and then initiate action.
