Development works launched at Kukkarahalli Lake

The first phase of development works on Kukkarahalli Lake, taken up jointly by Kukkarahalli Lake Development Authority and Tourism Department, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep by performing Guddali Puja at the North-Western portion of the Lake in front of Senate Bhavan here this morning.

University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor (in-Charge) Prof. Yashavanth Dongre, Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. J. Somashekar, Finance Officer Dr. B. Mahadevappa, Kukkarahalli Lake Protection Committee Convenor Dr. K.M. Jayaramaiah, UoM Executive Engineer H. Kishore Chandra, Syndicate Member Kumar, Assistant Engineer Shivalingaprasad, Crystal Spring Water Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director Ajit, Technical Director Gururaj, Executive Director Narayan and Director Raghunath were present.

In the first phase, the works to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 1.4 crore would include raising the Lake bund, widening of walking path, formation of a good parking lot for vehicles, construction of toilets, modification of entrance gates, resting shelters for walkers, chain-link fencing for Lake, formation of Kuvempu Vana and Children’s Park.

The development works in phases include de-silting and de-weeding of the lake, increasing the retention volume of water in lake, installation of e-water harmoniser to prevent bad odour, installation of four diffused aerator system to reduce biological load, resumption of boating facility with a good boating jetty, installation of information sign boards and construction of an aquarium, Bamboo Park and Butterfly Park.
