Dhanushkoti Falls draw tourists, cheer farmers

August 3, 2026

Chunchanakatte: Even as concerns over a weak monsoon continue to fuel fears of drought across Karnataka, four days of heavy rains in Kodagu district have rejuvenated the Cauvery River, turning the Dhanushkoti Falls at Chunchanakatte in Saligrama taluk into a major tourist attraction.

The surge in inflows from the Cauvery catchment has increased the river’s discharge to over 15,000 cusecs, bringing much-needed relief to farmers in Mysuru and Mandya districts while attracting thousands of visitors to the scenic waterfall near the Sri Rama temple.

The falls, cascading from a height of more than 40 feet, are in full spate, creating a spectacular display that has drawn large crowds. Young visitors, in particular, were seen capturing selfies and photographs against the backdrop of the gushing waters.

After remaining subdued during the dry months, the Dhanushkoti Falls have regained their splendour, with frothing white waters delighting tourists and residents alike.

The recent rains have also filled the nearby Ramasamudra Dam and the Balluru Chamaraja Canal Dam, located about 7 kms from Chunchanakatte at  Sakkare village.

Cauvery water is now flowing into both the left- and right-bank canals of the Chamaraja irrigation system, boosting farmers’ confidence and enabling them to resume agricultural activities.
