Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) has been contemplating to start diploma and certificate courses with respect to adventure activities of Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI), said University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, here yesterday.
Presiding over the valedictory of State-level convention organised by YHAI Karnataka and Mysuru Chapter at its premises in Gokulam 2nd stage, he said that measures would be taken to get the University’s nod for the introduction of certificate and diploma courses in adventure activities.
“UoM will soon take measures to start youth hostel units at its constituent colleges such as Maharaja’s College, University Evening College, Yuvaraja’s College and University Fine Arts College. Later, the units will be expanded to University PG Centres in Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts. Based on the response, affiliated colleges would be recommended to start YHAI units,” he added.
“Out of the total 1.20 lakh students in the University, only 25,000 students have involved themselves in NCC and NSS activities. There is a need to involve remaining 95,000 students in similar activities,” said Prof. Hemantha Kumar.
YHAI former State President and former MLC D. Madegowda, Department of Information and Publicity Deputy Director Dr. T. Poornima, YHAI State President Purushotham, Mysuru Unit President H. Ravi Kumar, Kuvempu University former V-C Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, Jana Shikshana Samsthe Director P. Ramesh, Prof. (retd.) Vasanthamma and others were present.
