Disaster waiting to happen on this unscientific road hump near Kukkarahalli Lake

December 6, 2017

Mysuru: The unscientific road hump laid near Kukkarahalli Lake on the Bogadi Road near Railway Crossing and Kalamandira Road junction is causing a lot of problems to motorists.

Protesting against this unscientific road hump which is causing inconvenience to the two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers, Mysore Travels Association President B.S. Prashanth, Mysore Travel Mart President Jayakumar, David, Kiran, Manju and others staged a protest yesterday, even as a car with low chassis was stuck at the road hump. The traffic was disrupted for some time.

Jayaprakash, speaking to Star of Mysore said, they decided to stage a protest as the Corporation Engineer whom they contacted replied arrogantly asking them to get in touch with the Mayor regarding the issue.

The unscientific road hump near Kukkarahalli Lake where a car was stuck yesterday as people protested against the same.

However, former Mayor R. Lingappa arrived at the spot and assured the protesters that he would get the road hump repaired at the earliest.

Unscientific road hump: The road hump laid on the Bogadi Road near the Crawford Hall Railway crossing is very unscientific. Especially it is causing problems for the high-end cars with low chassis and is damaging the car.

It is difficult for the drivers coming from Kalamandira side to identify this road hump and even for the two-wheeler riders it is very dangerous. The white paint on the road hump is faded and hence it is difficult to spot it.

When the Corporation Engineer was informed about this, he gave an irresponsible answer and said that he did not have the equipment to repair the hump. He said: “The Mayor told us to put up the road hump and we have done it. You just talk to him.”

The people who had gathered were incensed with his arrogant reply.

The protesters wondered whether the Mayor himself has to come to repair the road. Is it not the duty of the Corporation officials to do it? Do they not have a social responsibility? These were the questions raised by the public.

There are enough incidences of people losing life and limb due to such unscientific road humps. If such an incident occurs, then the Corporation will be held responsible.

As the traffic has been banned on Valmiki Road and Paduvarahalli Road junction due to the ongoing pipe-laying work, the volume of traffic has increased on this stretch near Kukkarahalli Lake.

The public have urged the Corporation authorities to immediately reduce the height of the hump, enable the easy flow of traffic and prevent disasters waiting to happen.
