Divinity, devotion mark observance of Good Friday

April 20, 2019

Mysuru: Mysureans observed Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ was crucified, with great devotion and feeling yesterday. The main tourist attraction, St. Philomena’s Church, as also other Catholic and Protestant Churches in city, saw the Christians attending Mass and Service where the Bishop and the clergy read the messages of Christ’s sacrifice, peace and love for humanity.

The Christian brethren, as a religious practice, fast on this day and give up on eating meat and attend Mass. The Bishop of Mysuru Rt. Rev. Dr. K.A. William and the clergy entered the Church in silence and later the Bishop spoke about the supreme sacrifice of Jesus and the suffering he had to undergo for the people and prayed for the goodness of all.

The clergy led the prayers and the devotees joined them in singing soulful songs about Jesus and remembered him for the divine mercy and redemption of Christians.

Picture shows hundreds of devotees attending the Mass. As part of Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday) commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Special Mass and Service will be held in all the Churches tomorrow.

Later, addressing the media, the Bishop said: “today the whole world is observing Good Friday. Jesus Christ suffered crucifixion to protect the world and sacrificed his life. The Christians exchange good wishes throughout the day and pray for the welfare of the world and the people. They trace the path that Jesus led for righteousness and make offerings to the poor.”

“Just as Dec.25 is celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ, Good Friday is observed recalling the sacrifice of Jesus for the masses,” said the Bishop.
