Dr. Rajappa Dalavayi delivers valedictory address at Rangantaranga children’s summer camp

Mysore/Mysuru: Parents must not restrict children from watching cartoons at home, said writer Dr. Rajappa Dalavayi, here on Friday.

Delivering the valedictory address of the summer camp organised by Rangantaranga Theatre Group at Kirurangamandira in Kalamandira premises, he said that cartoons could be a medium for children to enjoy happiness which they might not find in schools.

“Watching cartoon for an hour everyday will not have any adverse effect on child’s education. Parents must allow them to watch cartoons such as ‘Mickey Mouse’, ‘Chhota Bheem’ among others without posing restrictions. Children must be given some freedom to think creatively rather than forcing them to continuously study. It is the responsibility of parents and the Education Department to create a good atmosphere at home and schools respectively,” he added.

Stating that children were more inclined towards summer camps than schools in the recent days, Dr. Rajappa Dalavayi said that children must be allowed to think on various social aspects.

“Children are unable to find happiness and study-friendly environment at schools. Moreover, the Education Department has not come forward to create friendly atmosphere at schools which has forced the children to get attracted towards summer camps,” he added.

Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan and K.M. Keerthiraj of Rangantaranga were present.

Later, children presented various cultural programmes much to the delight of their parents                       and audience.
