February 12, 2019

Mysuru: The Probe Committee which was constituted by the MCC in connection with MG Road Double Billing Scam where Rs.1.4 crore was allegedly siphoned off by submitting two bills for the same work has found the allegations are prima facie true.

The Panel that conducted the meeting late till yesterday found that officials have claimed double the bill for a single work. Today also, the Committee members continued the meeting at MCC Council Hall to discuss the issue. The Committee is led by Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath.

The complainant in this case is Council Opposition Leader B.V. Manjunath against MCC Assistant Executive Engineer Sunil Babu, MCC Zone-1 Office Junior Engineer M.N. Mohanakumari and contractor Karigowda who are in the dock for alleged misappropriation.

The Mayor said that the Panel will prepare a report after inspecting the spot once again this evening or tomorrow. She said the report will recommend action against the guilty and send it to the State Government for action.

Committee member and Corporator Shivakumar said that Zone 1 received Rs. 4 crore under the MCC Special Grants. The MCC took development of road and drains to NH 212 near Mahatma Gandhi Road via Agrahara Circle and invited the tender. Civil Contractor Karigowda won bid for Rs. 3.21 crore to complete the works in three phases.  The first and second phase of the works was completed for Rs. 2.28 crore. “For the third bill, the discrepancy in bill was found to be more than Rs. 1.40 crore”, he said.
