U-16 AITA National Series Tennis Tournament

Mysuru: City’s Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar won both singles and doubles titles at the U-16 AITA National Series Tennis Tournament held at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad recently.

In the singles finals, Padmapriya overcame Aniha Gavinolla of Telangana in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to win the championship. In the semi-final, she beat Zoha Qureshi (Telangana) 7-5, 7-5 and Unnathi Muralidharan (Karnataka) in quarter-final 6-3, 7-6.

Meanwhile, in the doubles, Padmapriya partnering with Zoha Qureshi defeated the Telangana duo of Aniha Gavinolla and Bridhi Veladandhi in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the finals to emerge as champions. In the semi-final, Padmapriya and Zoha outclassed Unnathi Muralidharan and Srushitika Karthikeyan of Karnataka also in straight sets.

Daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chamarajanagar Circle), Padmapriya trains under Coach Raghuveer Ponnuswamy, Pawan and Sagar (fitness  coach) in Mysuru. She is a Class 9 student at Excel Public School in city. Padmapriya is currently ranked No.2 in Asian ranking and ranked No. 1 in India U-14 girls category.
