Dowry Death: Accused commits suicide at temporary jail

Mysore/Mysuru: A man, accused in a dowry death case, has committed suicide by hanging self at the temporary jail at Kailaspuram here in the wee hours of today.

The deceased is Pradeep, a resident of SBM Colony in Srirampura 2nd Stage in city. 

Pradeep, along with his mother Saroja and father Chaluvanayaka were accused of harassing Asharani (Pradeep’s wife) for dowry, which had resulted in Asharani, unable to bear the harassment by her husband and in-laws, committing suicide on May 7 night at her husband’s house. Pradeep had married Asharani on Apr. 4, 2021. Based on the complaint from Asharani’s father Nagaraja Nayaka, Kuvempunagar Police had registered a case against the three accused under Dowry Prohibition Act and Pradeep was sent to judicial custody. 

He was lodged in the temporary jail at Kailaspuram, where he committed suicide. Mandi Police have registered a case.
