Mysore/Mysuru: A city Court has sentenced five persons, including the husband of the victim, to seven years rigorous imprisonment on charges of abetting the death of a married woman, who committed suicide due to dowry harassment.

Those sentenced are Soma, the husband of the woman, her father-in-law Eeranna, mother-in-law Sudhamani and relatives Mahadevaswamy and Murthy.

Megha, daughter of H.N. Mahadevaswamy and Veena couple of Harohalli village in Jayapura Hobli of Mysuru taluk, who was in love with one Soma alias Harish of the same village, married him at Yediyur Siddalingeshwara Temple in Tumkur district on May 24, 2016. The Jayapura police after conducting investigation, had submitted charge-sheet at the Court against all the five accused.

The Fifth additional District and Sessions Court Judge Mallikarjuna, who heard the case, held all the five guilty of the charges and sentenced them to 7 years rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 5,000 on each of them.
