Dr. Kambara to deliver Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lecture at RIE tomorrow

Mysuru: The  Regional Institute of Education (NCERT), Mysuru, will celebrate its 57th Foundation Day on Aug.1 at 11 am in the Institute Assembly Hall. 

Dr. Chandrashekara B. Kambara, Jnanpith Awardee and President of Kendra Sahitya Academy, will be the chief guest and deliver the Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lecture. 

Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, will Chair the Session. Prof. Y. Sreekanth, Principal, RIE, Mysuru will  be present. 

The Regional Institute of Education (erstwhile Regional College of Education) was established in 1963 with the primary objective of qualitative improvement of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes and to undertake research, development and extension activities to the Southern Region. 

The Institute runs courses from Pre-primary to Ph.D levels. RIE has endeavoured to shoulder the responsibilities and challenges generated by changes in the educational scenario of the region consisting of the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana,  Puducherry and Lakshadweep. 

The Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lecture Series was instituted in 1964 in memory of the valuable services rendered by the late Sardar Panikkar for the development of education in India.  As the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, he had evinced deep interest in the growth of RIE, Mysore. Prof. K.M Panikkar began his career as University Professor and went on to serve as an Ambassador, a member of the States Re-organisation Commission, member of the Rajya Sabha, Vice-Chancellor of the Jammu & Kashmir University. 

Several eminent educationists such as Dr. V KR V Rao, Dr. M.G.K. Menon, Dr. Raja Ramanna, Justice Saldanha, Padmashri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao and many others have delivered Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lectures at RIE, Mysuru.
