Dr. Kannan: Tribute to a noble soul

July 14, 2020

Sir,

Apropos Dr. Javeed Nayeem’s recent write-up on Dr. Kannan, yes, it happened during the lockdown and I am sure being a humble, caring and honest person that he was, he wouldn’t have wished for a showy farewell.

Dr. Kannan, a father like figure, who was well-known as a family doctor, especially to most of us from Mysuru and Kodagu who only frequented ‘The Pathology Lab’ later known as just Kannan’s, for all our pathological tests, will be dearly missed.

Doctor nodding his head in reply to our good morning, drawing blood would be painless and his advice thereafter to keep the elbow folded with the cotton swab in place and to be seated outside for sometime before leaving, still rings in our ears. And this is done to each and every patient who sits in front of him for examination.

Our yearly medical examination is incomplete without a report from Dr Kannan and all of us have so much trust and confidence in the readings that going for a second opinion is unheard of.

Right from registration to the report handover, the discipline maintained by the staff is friendly and professional and the way everyone would be at attention when Dr. Kannan walked in on the dot was a sight to see, which only reflected the leadership or should we say the captain’s strict standards.

Like mentioned in the article, ‘Over a Cup of Evening Tea,’ the father has left behind his sons, Dr. Lakshman and Dr. Praveen, who are like-minded, professional, capable and experienced to carry on the exemplary work in the field of medical sciences.
