Dr. C.N. Manjunath at ‘Coffee with Doctors’ event
Mysore/Mysuru: Drinking two cups of coffee every day keeps the brain alert, reduces heart ailments by 18 percent, blood pressure by 16 percent and also prevents health issues like paralysis, said Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru.
He was speaking at the ‘Coffee with Doctors’ programme and ‘Coffee Krishi Mela’ organised as part of the 46th anniversary of Hassan District Planters’ Association in Sakleshpur, Hassan district recently.
He said, “The American College of Cardiology had conducted a 10-year study on the health of around five lakh people, who consumed two cups of coffee every day. According to the study, more than 10 health issues, including heart problems, blood pressure and others can be prevented by consuming coffee. One can live 10 years longer by drinking two cups of coffee daily. Many people around 90 to 100 years are leading a healthy life in the rural Malnad region, which is proof of this.”
There is a need to create awareness on the goodness of drinking coffee and its health benefits among the people, he said adding that new brands should be introduced and a ‘Coffee Fair’ should be conducted. Also there is a need to set up a research division related to coffee in Universities, he noted.
