Education goes beyond Knowledge: Registrar Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi

Mysuru:  Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi, Registrar, University of Mysore (UoM), said ‘The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence,’  quoting Tagore’s ideology on education.

Addressing students of St. Joseph’s First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, during the inauguration of Prof. Mani C. Mathew Endowment Award recently, he urged students to perform better in the areas of their interest in order to make a difference in the society.  

The event began with the musical performance in percussion by Nandan Kashyap and scintillating folk dance (Dollu Kunitha) by the students followed by the formal welcome rendered by Dr. V. Niveditha, Principal, St. Joseph’s First Grade College.

Endowment Award was unveiled by the Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William, Bishop of Mysore Diocese.

The College also celebrated its Annual and Ethnic Day in which University toppers, student achievers in academics, cultural and sports were felicitated.

The Bishop highlighted the significance of ethnicity and encouraged students to understand the real sense of ethnicity which is more than outward appearance.

Prof. Mani C. Mathew dedicated the Endowment Award to his parents and students recalling with gratitude the service rendered at St. Joseph’s institution as the Founder-Principal.

T.R. Kanchana, Head, Department of Commerce, read the Annual Report.  Vani P. Rao, Chief Librarian, proposed a vote of thanks.

Toppers from five streams  Ganashree, Shreya, D.R. Nisarga, B.S. Sushma, S. Patricia of B.A, B.Sc, BCA, B.Com and BBA respectively were given Prof. Mani C. Mathew Endowment Award for Academic Excellence 2015-18.

T. Amitha from B.Com, N. Praveen Kumar from BBA, Ujwal from B.Sc,  Allen from BCA and Niharika from B.A. received Best Outgoing student of the year Award for their excellence in Academics, Sports, Cultural achievements and active participation in NSS and NCC.

Exceptional Josephites who made the College proud through their consecutive triumph in sports through University and National representations, achievements in cultural activities, NSS and NCC were also felicitated along with Mr. and Ms. Ethnic recognition for the best dressed students portraying varied ethnicity in culture.

Msgr. Rev. Fr. Leslie Moras, Episcopal Vicar General for Health and Education; Rev. Fr. Vijay Kumar, Secretary and Correspondent, MDES; Rev. Fr. Praveen, Priest-in-charge; Prof. Mani C. Mathew, CEO of St. Joseph’s Institutions were present on the occasion.
