Education in mother tongue provides more knowledge: CM Siddharamaiah

December 9, 2017

Mysuru: “If education is received in mother tongue, more knowledge can be acquired to come up in life’ opined Chief Minister Siddharamaiah.

He was speaking after performing ‘Guddali puja’ for the construction of College and hostel buildings of D. Sanjeevaiah Memorial Education Society at its premises in Vijayanagar 1st stage here yesterday.

Siddharamaiah observed that students would grasp the subject better if explained in their mother tongue. He pointed out that quality education could be provided in Kannada medium also and not necessarily in English medium.

Recalling his school days Siddharamaiah said that he studied SSLC in 1964 in Kannada medium and stood first in class scoring more marks than English medium students. He further said that after switching over to English medium later he dropped to second class. He further recalled that he was a school dropout and said that his teacher Rajappa had got him a seat directly in 5th standard. He added that but for that teacher’s insistence he would not have pursued education and become a Chief Minister.

Society President D. Nanjundaiah, District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Marithibbegowda, MP Dhruvanarayan, MLAs Vasu, K. Venkatesh, former Minister C.H. Vijayshankar and others were present.
