Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that India is a country where women are respected the most, MP Pratap Simha said that Hindu religion looks at women as mothers.
He was speaking after inau-gurating the International Women’s Day celebration organised by BJP Corporator M. Pramila Bharath (Ward No.23- Subbarayanakere) at Alamma Choultry on Vinoba road, Shivarampet, here on Saturday morning.
Highlighting the numerous programmes launched by Prime Minister Modi for the empowerment and welfare of women, Simha said that the Union Government provided 9 crore free LPG connections to poor women during COVID-19 crisis and has built 14 crore toilets for women in both urban and rural parts of India, in an effort to make the country free from open defecation.
Asserting that the Modi Government was committed for the empowerment of women, he called upon the womenfolk to get informed about various Government schemes and seek benefits under them.
Games were organised on the occasion. Also eight women achievers of the city from different fields — Rachana (Yoga exponent), Vijayamma (Cloth bag maker), Anjali (Videographer), Veena (Auto driver), Revathi (School teacher), Malathi (Anganwadi teacher), Pushpalatha (ASHA worker) and Malini (Harikatha Vidwan) were felicitated along with DCP Geetha Prasanna on the occasion.
MLA L.Nagendra, Corporator Pramila Bharath, City BJP President T.S. Srivatsa, BJP leaders Tanuja Mahesh, Hema Nandeesh, H.G. Giridhar, Ramesh Gowda, Puneeth and others were present.
