Elderly man run over by train

Mysuru: A 75-year-old man has been run over by a train near Mallanamoole in Nanjangud taluk on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Siddappa, a resident of Sonahalli in Nanjangud.

Siddappa, who participated in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Guru Kambalishwara Mutt at Mallanamoole on Sunday, was proceeding to the Private Bus Stand to catch a bus to his place and decided to walk on the Railway track thinking that it was a short cut to the Private Bus Stand.

In the meantime, Mysuru-Chamarajanagar Passenger Train which came on the same track ran over Siddappa, killing him on the spot.

It is learnt that Siddappa, being hearing-impaired, did not hear the approaching train.

Mysuru Railway Police SI Jagadish and staff Ramesh and Madesh, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar and have registered a case.
