By-election Battle: People will vote for development: Geetha Mahadevaprasad

April 7, 2017

Literally ignoring the scorching sun and sweltering heat, both Congress and BJP have taken a challenge to emerge victorious in the Gundlupet by-election that will be held on Apr. 9. Election campaigning that has reached the crescendo will come to an end today evening and both Geetha Mahadevaprasad (Congress) and C.S. Niranjan Kumar (BJP) are indulging in last-minute exercise to win the voters’ heart. Star of Mysore meets both of them to elicit their views on campaigning and their winning prospects.

Star of Mysore (SOM): Voting will be held on Sunday and how is the atmosphere?

Geetha Mahadevaprasad: Congress has received tremendous response and we have seen this during our election campaigns. We have covered all the 176 villages, tribal hamlets and colonies and the people volunteered to join our rallies. My husband late H.S. Mahadevaprasad has ensured that the constituency is developed and that is why he was elected five times. His work will ensure my victory and I will get widespread support from women.

SOM: What are the election issues that have enabled you to go before people?

Geetha Mahadevaprasad: My husband has done a lot of development works for the last 24 years and he has changed the face of Gundlupet. Plus the State government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, has showered many goodies on the constituency. People respect my family and they will support me in this hour of grief.

SOM: Why should a voter elect you?

Geetha Mahadevaprasad: For the overall development of Gundlupet and it will be helpful as Congress is the ruling party. I can get more funds and CM Siddharamaiah has himself assured me and the people of more funds. Development is the main issue in this election.

SOM: What will be your priorities if you win?

Geetha Mahadevaprasad: Many villages in Gundlupet do not have permanent drinking water facility. A project has been launched to provide the same. I will speed up the works and drinking water will be my priority. Also, I will take steps to fill water to the dried up lakes in the constituency.
