Mysore/Mysuru: “Electrical mishap cases in Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited limits have reduced drastically by 70 percent,” said CESC Chief Engineer Mahadevaswamy Prasanna, here yesterday.

Speaking at the event titled ‘Safety feature while on job,’ organised as a part of Electrical Safety Week (June 26 to July 2) held at Karnataka Electricity Board Engineers Association (KEBEA) Training Centre in Kadakola, he said that while 211 electrocution cases were reported in 2022-23, the same had reduced by 35 percent with 138 cases in 2023-24.

He also said that the number of fatalities had reduced by 70 percent along with 40 percent reduction in animal fatalities.

 Stating that electrical safety week was being celebrated to create awareness among the staff members to adopt safety measures while on job adding that safety measures have to be prioritised along with providing quality power supply to the consumers. The Chief Engineer also mentioned that CESC had also decided to impose fine against those employees who had failed to take precautionary measures while executing works.

CESC Managing Director Sheela, who spoke on the occasion, said that the CESC employees had been educated regarding the safety measures to be adopted while on job and added that similar programmes would be held at all sub-divisions.

“Staff working to provide electricity to the people is very important to CESC. We have ensured that safety measures are adopted while executing several works. It is satisfactory that number of electrical mishaps have reduced,” she added. CESC Additional Chief Vigilance Officer H.S. Venkatesh, Superintending Engineer Sunil, Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer Altaf Hussain, Sandeep, Raghukumar and other officials were present.
