Elephant calf to be named after Manikandan

Hunsur: A three-month-old calf of elephant Varalakshmi at Mathigodu camp will be named after Manikandan, the Conservator of Forests who was recently trampled to death by a wild elephant in Nagarahole.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held on Mar.5 at the Forest Office in the town.

It was also decided to name a Watch Tower at Mathigodu after Manikandan and also institute an award in the name of the Forest Officer to be presented to the Best performing staff of the Department in Hunsur.

The meeting was chaired by in-charge CF Maria Krishnaraj.
