End exploitation of Pourakarmikas

November 3, 2017

Sir,

Apropos the news item “Commission to file cases against MCC, Zoo and Palace Board” (SOM dated Oct. 29), Pourakarmikas, who do all dirty, dangerous and back-breaking jobs are an exploited lot by the contractors and all sundry in the establishment. Flouting rules, it’s a shame that they’re made to work without masks, boots, hand gloves, push-carts and other materials required.

Safai Karmachari Commission of the State should be complimented for deciding to file suo motu cases against the heads of these organisations. The message from the Commission to the officers probably is: ‘Do not restrict yourselves to your well-furnished office chambers, go and also see how the civic workers are cleaning the clogged chambers’! Fraudulent contractors should be shown the door.
