Establish a cultural centre as a fitting tribute to the CM

January 18, 2025

Sir,

It was heartening to read the news report titled “I never asked to name any road after me: CM Siddaramaiah” in Star of Mysore dated Jan. 11.

Further, the CM has made a profound statement that if the Road (Princess Road) already has a name, it should remain unchanged !

In my two letters published in this column, I had urged the CM as under:

“I wish the CM would show the same grace and maturity and direct the MCC and his MLA from this foolhardy perfidy.”

“I sincerely hope, as suggested by Sandesh Swamy, the Chief Minister intervenes in the matter and puts an end to the unseemly fracas.”

I am glad our CM has shown political perspicacity to end this unseemly fracas !

I wish, as KBG had rightly suggested, a NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts) like cultural centre is established by K. Harishgowda, MLA, as a more fitting tribute to the CM as a lasting contribution  to the city.

Last Maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar was part of an illustrious Board of Advisors of NCPA.

NCPA was founded in 1969 by J.R.D. Tata and Dr. Jamshed Bhabha (his grandfather Hormusji Bhabha, who was Inspector-General of Education of  Mysore and his aunt Lady Meherbai Tata, was an iconic personality). It is ably managed by my dear friend K.N. Suntook and is taking it to greater heights.

On my request, his orchestra SOI (Symphony Orchestra of India) had performed at Mysore Palace Durbar Hall during the Maharaja’s Birth Anniversary.

I really wish KBG’s bucket list is really implemented in the near future!
